Confused? Overwhelmed? Not too sure about your Career Path?
Welcome to the Holland Model
The Holland Model was designed by John Holland to help individuals make Career and Education choices that match their own interests and abilities. The theory behind the model was an outgrowth of John Holland's practical experience in the fields of job classification and career choices. As a classification interviewer with the army, Dr. Holland realized that many people seemed to be examples of common personality types. This led to his first formulation that most people can be loosely categorized with respect to six types: Realistic, Investigative, Artistic, Social, Enterprising, and Conventional.
In 1995, Dr. Holland received the prestigious American Psychological Association award for Distinguished Contributions to Knowledge for his theory of careers that “provided an intellectual tool for integrating our knowledge of vocational intentions, vocational interests, personalities, and work histories.”
What we know about the Holland Model?
• It was developed by Dr. John Holland, whose theory of careers is the basis for most of the career inventories used today.
• People who choose careers that match their own types are most likely to be both satisfied and successful. The assessment can help you to understand more about yourself and how your individual skills and interests are related to your career choice.
• Research has established that personality is the single most important factor in job choice, job satisfaction and long term career success. The Holland Model correlates personality types to work environments.
• The model has been used by over 22 million people worldwide and has also been translated into 25 different languages. Results have been supported by over 500 research studies.
