The Life Skills programme is critical because you have to do it before you can get a placement in the OJT programme.
Placement is based however on the availability in the field the trainee is interested. Once a suitable placement is available it normally takes 4-6 weeks to be placed.
I have been waiting for an OJT placement 9 months now did Life Skills with 100% portfolio. Got a recommendation for myself and OJT still giving me a run a round and they are very rude to people.
I'm Currently a student at the University of the West Indies, and I was wondering if the OJT has any Program for the vocational period between semesters namely the June-September period. Thanks in advance...
Yes we do. We have a program for University students for the summer vacation (May-September).
N.B The OJT programme is for 2 years. If one chooses to do the programme for the summer period, their length of time will be deducted every time they come back on the programme.

The On-the-Job Training programme does not offer courses. We provide Job training experiences in different academic, technical and vocational fields which will prepare nationals of Trinidad and Tobago between ages 16-35 for the world of work.
The Life Skills programme exposes participants to attitudinal and personal development aimed at transforming behaviour, engendering a positive work ethic and equipping participants with the tools to become productive and responsible members of society.
The programme is for eight days and at the end of it indidviduals have to produce a portfolio. It should incorporate their reflections on the topics discussed in the sessions and also all the information gained over the period.
Please call or visit your OJT regional office. Check here for the listing---->http://www.ntatt.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=239&Itemid=176

I have did life skills last year of 2010 and did not get a placement, i have contact the south office many many times where i have applied and they did not assist me with any feedback. What else can i do?
Hi i worked 2years with ojt as a classroom assistant and i wanted to find out if you can reapply in the programmed but to work in a clerical field to gain the experience
If I send in my application tomorrow how long will I have to wait to do the life skills program? And how long after life skills will I have to wait to get a placement?
Once your application along with the necessary documentation is received, you are then placed on the Life Skills Programme once there is space for that cycle. If there is no space, however, for that cycle, you will then be placed on the following one.

hi,i was wondering since i have 8 cxc passses and 1 Cape result since i am currently completing my 2 yr period of Cape...where will i stand in terms of a paycheck.will i be categorized as getting $2000 or $3000?since i have decided that i would try the OJT programme while i await the rest of my CAPE results in August
Since you have not officially received all your CAPE results as yet, you will be paid as a Level 1 Trainee which is $2,000 (for Trainees with secondary education and qualifications up to CXC).
Yes it is. The Life Skills programme is critical because you have to do it before you can get a placement in the OJT programme.

i completed 1 year of the ojt programme already in the Chaguanas area. i would like to know if it is possible that i can get my second year in San Fernando instead because of change of address?
I have my two recommendations is this the same as Referees on the form? Or do I need two other referees? And if so can came someone who gave me a recommendation also give me a reference? And could you please give me a basic list of interest in which I should put on the form?
Yes, both referees (on the form) are the same as recommendations (which are required to be brought in).
Presently, we do not have a list of the areas of interest for the prospective On-the-Job trainees. However, write down what you are interested in and we will try our very best to accommodate you.
Hi there. I am 34 years old, I don't have 3 C.X.C passes but have tertiary education, vocational education (through the Retraining Program) & years of work experience, would I still qualify as an applicant? Is there a specific office I should call? I'm from Tunapuna.
Nice work with regard to answering questions. Greatly appreciated.
I already completed the Life Skills Training Program since May and I'm waiting to be placed. People are being placed if they know someone to help them out. It's unfair because I have a B.Sc and an M.Sc and I cannot be placed because I don't have contacts in high places!
I am having a big problem . I haven't received my stipend for approximately 3 months. I honestly dont know what I should do and who I should contact with reguards to this pressing issue. I have contacted both the bank as well as the OJT office constantly over the three month period . Any advice would be willingly accepted .
You can contact the On-the-Job Training (OJT)Head Office at the National Training Agency (NTA) in Chaguanas at 672-7107or 672-7108 Ext. 109 You can call or visit your OJT regional office. Check here for the listing---->www.ntatt.org/.../
As an employer, do you get to choose your preferred trainee (i.e. cherry pick the best candidate from the database or someone you might be familar with), or is the OJT selected for you? Thanks.
The OJT programme provides training in various fields. However you can contact the OJT Regional Office closes to your address and they will inform you of the fields in which training is available. See link for contact information: www.ntatt.org/.../

I was employed in the OJT Programme in the year 2009, and I only did one year training. I tried calling the office numerous times to get back on the programme however, the employees weren't very helpful. I really would appreciate some assistance please thank you.
Yes, you are eligible to another year of training. However you will have to fill out the trainee application form, attach all the necessary documents and submit online or to the OJT Regional Office closes to your address.
Hi, if your supervisor is verbally abusive to you & has made complaints against you (written) without your knowledge of it, what can be done? I tried calling the hotline but it hasnt helped. She has made ALL but 2 ojt's look bad by being dishonest about us. All because we asked her to clarify some info. PLEASE HELP
Please contact the Life Skills Unit at 672-7107 Ext. 133 for info on becoming a tutor and the National Training Agency Human Resource Department at 672-7107 for info on becoming a Placement Officer.
Hey i wanted to know, after starting the program if I happen to get a permanent job elsewhere, if I would be able to drop out of the OJT program and accept the other job, without any penalties from OJT, because I have sent out applications previously to other organisations.. Thank you..
Yes, you can resign from the OJT programme without facing penalties. You simply fill out the OJT resignation Form which available in 'Trainee Forms' online and deliver it to your Field Placement Officer.
The OJT programme provides job training opportunities in many different fields. Therefore it depends on what field you are interested in being trained. Then programme will find suitable placement to match your field of interest.
I was on the ojt programme back in 2006 as a Teacher's Assistant for 6 months, since then I have acquired an associates degree. Can I re apply? How much will I possibly earn?
Yes you can re-apply. However you will have a balance of 18 months of training on the programme and you will earn the level two stipend rate which is $3000.00 monthly.
Hi, i'm a university student ad I have sent in my application already. Are the 8 days for the Life Skills Development training consecutive? And if so what are the designated hours?
Applicants are contacted within four to six weeks after submitting an application. However based on the availability of placement in the field of training requested by applicant the time period may vary.
After completing the OJT Programme the trainee is awarded a Certificate of Participation for the period of training. Please contact your Regional Office for more information.
Yes, you will be granted a leave of absents during your maternity period. However the time will be extended to your OJT contract. Regards to payment you will need to sign up to receive NIS contributions. You can contact your OJT Regional office for more information.
Hi I would like to know from when are you entitled to go on maternity leave and when are you required to resume work? Also how would one receive the stipend or the nis contributions? What is the proceedure to this? Does the trainee needs to come into the office or it would be left by the employer to inform?
Good day.I obtained my bachelor's degree in February of this year, however, since the graduation ceremony usually takes place in late October/November at UWI I do not yet have my certificate.I have however an official letter of verification from UWI as well as a copy of my academic transcript proving that I have indeed completed and graduated with my degree on February 1st,2011.What I would like to know is whether I will be paid $3000 or $5000 per month if I joined the OJT program?
Hi...im currently in the OJT programme since i finished school but while being here, I did extra courses like Peachtree A/c and Ytepp and a Computer course. Also i am in my second year of my Associate Degree @ Costaatt so I was wondering if i should still be receiving the Level 1 stipend?
I would like to find out what is the proceedure of maternity leave with the ojt programme? Do we get paid when on leave and from when are we allowed to go on leave from?
The OJT Programme does not pay Trainees while on maternity leave. Trainees are required to complete all the necessary documents that meets NIS requirements and submit these documents to your relevant OJT Programme Office.
Further information on the NIS policy for Maternity Leave can be obtained at: http://www.nibtt.net/benefits_09/ben_maternity.html
Hi, if i e-mail my application form, would i have to scan all my other certification documents and attach them in the e-mail also or would i have to hand deliver those? Thank you
Yes, you can email all of the required documents to fulfil the application process; however, it is advised to drop off hard copies of all the application documents at your nearest OJT Programme Office, to ensure that you have met the application requirements.
There are several career opportunities within the field of Sociology. It would be best for you to research these careers to determine the type of job you wish to pursue.
You can apply for a position in Journalism; however,Training Providers/Employers may seek graduates who possess a sound knowledge of Journalism and Communications Studies.
The OJT Programme is one programme that seeks to provide nationals with pre-employment skills to gain footholes within the world-of-work. On the OJT Programme application form, persons are required to state their On-the-Job-Training desired, which will refer to different career opportunities within Trinidad and Tobago.
i had sign up for OJT about 3 years ago and i did the life skills program but wasn't placed to do OJT since i started university. Now that i want to sign back up do i need to do the life skills program again?
Hi Neisha, Once you have completed the Life Skills Programme you will not be required to do it again.
Please return to the OJT Programme Office that you applied to, to follow up on your application. Placement is determined by the demand and supply of jobs within the current labour market.
Hi Liante, The OJT Programme is designed for persons to gain experience in their field of study or interest; permanency is not guaranteed but based on a number of factors such as your competence, and the needs of the Training Provider/Employer. Unfortunately, the OJT Programme does not have a list of careers that you can choose from; however, you can search different careers and determine what you are most interested in and apply for it. Placements are based on the demand and supply of jobs within the current labour market.
Hello Good day, I obtained my bachelor's degree in July 2012,however,the graduation ceremony is in November at UTT. I did not yet receive my certificate.I started working in Sept 2012 and then graduated in November 2012. i still haven't received my certificate or official completion letter from UTT,due to some issues with them. What I would like to know is since i'm being paid $3000 per month now,do i get back the($2000),for each month that have already passed, when i drop in my certificate ?????
Hi MD, Please walk with your certificates and return to your Placement Development Officer (PDO)for this issue. The normal process involves the payment of these accruals or back-payments; however, I would advise that you consult with your PDO for further information, when you obtain your certificate.
I would like to know if there is a site where I can read up more about the fields that I can put on my form, for eg, Clerical Assistant, Administrative Assistant, I am interested in attaining a job in the Accounting line as this is my area of interest, can you please help...any assistance would be appreciated. Thank you in advance
Unfortunately, the OJT Programme does not have the site you requested; however, the OJT Programme is designed to place persons in positions that they are desirous of gaining the pre-employment skills for further career development. Thus, persons would normally apply for positions that they have furthered their studies or are really interested in pursuing.
I'm supposed to sign a contract with a company through the OJT tomorrow and I have continuing studies on evenings from 5:30 pm to 8:30pm so I would like to know what are the working hours and work days to prevent problems with both the job and education schedule.
Hi Jonas, I do apologise for my late reply. The length of the normal training day is 8 hours. Trainees usually work Monday to Friday 8:00am - 4:00pm, with one hour for lunch. Some training will vary from this pattern due to the nature of the business of the Training Provider/Employer.
Hi good morning, I recently re applied with OJT and I just want to know the process I have to take seeing that I did the Life Skills Programme already?
I have participated in the life skills and orientation programme already back in 2007, do I still have to do this over? Or should my re-joining OJT process be shorter?
Once you have completed the Life Skills Programme you do not have to do it again. Please visit one of our offices and speak with a Placement Development Officer to determine the status of your application form.
hi if I send my application via email do I need to get scanned copies of the certificates, reference letter ,id etc or can it be added to my portfolio later on ?
To complete the application process all relevant documents should be attached or compiled and sent to our office. You can submit these documents via email or submit hard copies to any one of our OJT Programme Offices.
What about the two referees? As a U.W.I. graduate with very little working experience, can they be project group members? Lectures may not be familiar and may not have contact information for former colleagues. Also, you said "Once your application along with the necessary documentation is received, you are then placed on the Life Skills Programme once there is space", is it one programme housed at one location (say P.O.S.) and is there a way for potential applicants to know whether there is space so they can synchronize the timing of their respective application?
Recommendations can be from your doctor, your community leader, a police officer, your priest or pastor, past teachers or principal, and or lecturers.
A recommender will be someone who can attest to your character.
Please be advised that, the Life Skills Programme is conducted at the different Regional Offices, and you will attend the Life Skills Programme at the OJT Office that you applied to. Placement Officers will contact you to participate within the Life Skills Programme when the programme is available.
The On-the-Job-Training desired will indicate the type of training you would like to obtain. For example you may want to obtain training in a Law office or within a Health Center.
The minimum requirements for the OJT Programme is at least 3 CXC passes; however, you can still apply to the programme since placements are based on Training Providers' requests.
Would an individual acting as an intern in this programme be allowed to take up training for 1 day a week elsewhere, or is this considered truancy, for which the trainee would lose their post?
Trainees are normally required to work 40 hours per week, that is, Monday to Friday 8am to 4pm.
Once your additional duties do not conflict with the requirements of the programme, then you can use your discretion and determine if you can work elsewhere.
Hi, i am currently an OJT. my contract has IT assistant but i was moved from this position and placed elsewhere in the worrkplace. i am not satisfied with this and i would like to complete my other year as the position i was assigned to, An IT assistant.can the employer place me in another position and if not what shoould i do
Good day, I am currently enrolled in the OJT program but I wolud like to know if I am offered another job and i would like to accept the offer, what do I have to do in order to take up this position and stop my training.
Please clarify your question. Are you inquiring about working at the OJT Office and working on the field, or are you inquiring about the requirements for an OJT to be a Supervisor?
I am awaiting my OJT stipend for the month of February, can you please tell me what is hindering the payment process? A lot of other OJTs has not yet been paid as well. How soon would this problem be rectified? Myself as well as all the other OJTs who haven't recieved their February's stipend are very much concerned. Thank you. *(P.S-people have dey chirren to mine and ting)
I do apologise for the delays with your payment. We did experience issues with the payments for trainees during the month of February; however, this issue has been rectified as at 26-03-2013.
Once again, I apologise and I do hope this answered your query.
The ojt program last for 24 months right ?cause i work for 6 months and then i re entered the program and was only given a total of 22 months of actually work. I am suppose to get 2 months additional or is that normal to get 22 months. Please shed some light on this matter.
Yes, the programme is designed to be completed within 24 months.
Please consult with your relevant OJT Office and the assigned Placement Development Officer at the office, to determine your total time on the programme.
hi i have 2 cxc subjects but i have my cxc certifcate to prove i have 2 cxc subljects because i misplaced my cxc results slip n am also doing a data operations course at ytepp could i still sign up for ojt even if i have my cxc certificate...
Why is there not a list of training providers and or jobs/fields from which a prospective trainee may select for his/her on the job training. Are placements left then to the discretion of the placement officer.
Refer to the following link: http://www.ntatt.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=291&Itemid=160
This provides a list of the training providers that you may be referring to.
Also, one of our missions would be to match the qualifications of our trainees with the requests from our training providers; therefore, we do not have a list of careers that are available. We place trainees based on current requests.
Hi, I applied through San Fernando a year go and completed the life skills training at the same time but I haven't been placed. When I called the San Fernando office they told me that since I live in Debe the new Debe office will deal with my placement and they gave me a number to call. I've tried that number for the last 3 days but I get a voicemail. The number is 7299428. So is there any other number to get in contact with the Debe office?
I do apologise for this inconvenience. Kindly email your Full Name, the date of your application form and any other particulars to ojtntatt.org and we will seek to rectify this issue.
Once again we do apologise for this issue.
Unfortunately, this is the only number available for the Debe office.
Thank you very much i looked into the information i received from you . I really wanted to know if i sign up to work through OJT and request to work in the medical field (it is the experience i would like to gain), could you tell me what position i could receive. I know the health sector is a tedious place to work, so for experience, would i work as a secretary dealing with medical profiles only, or if would be a nurse assistant e.t.c. Would you be able to say?
Our placement process is designed to match the training desired from applicants with the requests from our Training Providers/Employers; as such, we do not have a list of careers that are available.
On the application form, there is a section that requires you to identify the "On-the-job-training desired"; here you can place the opportunity within the specific sector/field you are interested in.
Thank you for your respond. I have another question i received $1183 for the 8 days of lifeskills I have my degree and wanted to query if this amount was accurate.
Calculations for the Life Skills Training Session will be based on a number of factors:
- Your level of academic qualifications - The number of days within the month in which you attended the Life Skills Session - The amount deducted for NIS, Health Surcharge - The number of days you attended the training session.
Thus, this isn't a straight forward calculation.
The standard rate for calculating the life skills payment is 25% of your stipend level less all deductions.
hi, if I'm placed in a position not desired however still accepted the position,is it possible I be considered for an opening in the desired position?that is after I begin working in the placed position?
is it true that u need 5 cxc subjects to apply for ojt cuz dat wat am hearing now btw if it isnt so can i still apply with 2 cxc subjects cuz am doing ova 2 for january 2014?
If you have completed your CXC and then completed a 2-year certificate or technical diploma or associate degree, you will be entitled to the Level 2 Stipend, that is, $3,000.00 per month.
If you were placed in a training environment that you are not satisfied with, you can contact your Placement Officer and reiterate your desired interest in obtaining training in a specific field. Please note that, the Placement Officer can only place you in the relevant training positions that are available.
We do not have a list of training institutions available to the public. Our programme is designed to match the qualifications of applicants with the requests of Training Providers; as such, trainees can indicate job roles or positions that they are interested in and we will try our best to place you in a position that is available.
If I am having a situation of being verbally abuse at my training center which I work how I go about dealing with the situation? Also what are the rules and regulations in which I work within,. I'm a clerical assistant at a secondary school
Please contact the OJT Office that you are attached to, and speak to a Performance Monitoring and Evaluation Officer.
You can also submit your complaint at ojtntatt.org.
This is a serious matter and we do hope that any trainee in this situation contacts our office promptly, so that a full investigation can be conducted to rectify the issue.
Hi I am a recent graduate from utt diploma programmed.. in this programme we did communication and life skills for three months....is it possible to get exempted from the ojt life skills...or do i still have to do it...
Yes, you will be required to join our Life Skills Programme, since this programme is designed to prepare you for the world of work and to understand the benefits of the OJT Programme.
Hi I'm planning to join the OJT programme but I have 1 year training as an administrative assistant (2011-2012). I'm interested in gaining management training in new fields such as in marketing or as a Business Analyst. Firstly, the prior work esperience will it hurt my chances of entry? Educationally i know i satisfy the requirements as i have a BA hons in Business management and is almost finished with my MBA (final module to be written in June 2013). Secondly, do u know if Business Analyst positions are offered in OJT? Thirdly i noticed people receive 6 mths, 1 year, 2 years training. How does this work do you have to specify how long you want to be trained? I know the maximun is 2 years.
You are eligible to join the OJT Programme, and we look forward to your application.
The programme is designed to be completed in two (2) years; however, you can resign from the programme at anytime and re-apply. However, once you have completed the two (2) years in full or in part, you are no longer eligible to join the programme.
Additionally, our policy is one where we try to match the training desired of our applicants with the requests of our Training Providers/Employers, thus, we do not have a list of training opportunities that are available since our placements take place on a request basis.
OK.....Another issue that I have is with my MBA. After placement I may complete my MBA....what's the proceedure to ensure that my salary would be adjusted to reflect my highest level of education since at the time of application I would have had only the BA. Is it that you have to go through the entire process of applying again (like getting recommendations etc again). Cuz if that's the case I would rather wait until i complete the MBA and then apply. Also how recent does a recommendation letter have to be inorder to be of use?
Once you have completed your MBA and you are on the programmme, you are required to submit your most recent academic certificates. The Placement Development Officer will then assess you and recommend that your stipend level be increased to reflect your new records.
Recommendation letters should not be older than 6 months prior to date of application.
Please fill out the application form and indicate the training desired. From your application we will match the requests from our Training Providers/Employers.
I would not be able to say at this time, which companies are available since we will assess your academic qualifications against our requests.
i did the Life Skills programme in 2006 (first cycle) and never received my stipend for it. Can i get a contact for someone who can provide further information to shed some light on this matter.
Please send a detailed email to ojtntatt.org indicating the following: Your Full Name The OJT Office that you attended the Life Skills Programme The tutor's name
If you have any further information that will assist in the recovery of this payment, include it in the email.
We do apologise for this breakdown in our service and we will try our best to rectify this issue.
Please be advised that you are required to submit specific documents together with the Vacation Application Form, in order to apply for Vacation Training.
The specific forms are as follows:Copies of - Electronic Birth Certificate - CV/Resume - One (1) National Identification - Utility Bill - Two (2) letters of recommendations - Academic Certificates
You can obtain a vacation application form at any one of the OJT Programme Offices.
Your stipend amount (per mth) will be based on your academic achievements. The stipend levels are as follows: Level 1: CXC Level Certificate (minimum of 3 O'level subjects) $2,000.00 Level 2: CAPE A'level passes (minimum 2 passes together with the core courses, Associate degree, Technical degree (2 years) $3,000.00 Level 3: Undergraduate Degree $5,000.00 Level 4: Post-graduate degree $6,0000.00
Hi, i have been an OJT for over a year, however i was only recently informed there was no record of my NIS number (was never instructed that i had to do this myself) so my question is .... where has the $200-$600 a month been going if not to pay my national insurance? and will it be paid for that time?
This question requires further information, please send a detailed email with your Full Name and the OJT Office that you are assigned to, so that we can conduct a full inquiry on this matter.
You can forward the documents via mail or email. However, it is preferred that you or someone you trust drop off the documents at one of the OJT Offices to ensure receipt.
Our placements are based on training provider requests; thus, please indicate what positions you are interested in and our placement officers will try our best to match our Training Provider requests. I do hope this answered your question.

The Life Skills programme is critical because you have to do it before you can get a placement in the OJT programme.
Placement is based however on the availability in the field the trainee is interested. Once a suitable placement is available it normally takes 4-6 weeks to be placed.
N.B The OJT programme is for 2 years. If one chooses to do the programme for the summer period, their length of time will be deducted every time they come back on the programme.
